About
I spent fifteen years of my professional career at various rapid growth-stage businesses and even one mass media conglomerate. I’ve written software for very high-throughput systems that can reach upwards of 100k RPS, privacy compliance consent management platforms that operated on more than 16,000 domains, software systems that mitigated a 25% revenue risk for a $400M company, modern UIs for legacy SaaS systems, rapid prototyping, internal tooling… the list goes on and on.
As you could imagine, working on projects like these can be like a rollercoaster ride with countless ups, downs, twists, and turns. Yet throughout all of the fluidity over the years, there always remained one constant thought in my mind: I’m following someone else’s dreams, not my own.
This thought followed me around after every promotion, raise, bonus, new job, restructuring, surviving a round of layoffs, and more. It wasn’t until I hit a high level of burnout with my professional career that I knew it was finally time to make a drastic change. No more half measures. No more dipping my toes in, starting and stopping business ideas. No more waffling between my professional career and entrepreneurial aspirations. It was time to go all in. But where to even begin?
Looking back, it took me about two years of preparing. I got my finances in order. I got my lifestyle in order. I got buy-in from my spouse. I even chose a “resignation date” which I proudly wrote on my whiteboard in my office to remind myself of what I was working toward whenever I felt down, grinding away at someone else’s dream. And then, to my surprise, things began to fall into place pretty rapidly. So much so, that I was able to move forward with my plan about six months earlier than I originally thought. And with that, I did what most experts say not to do: I quit my job to pursue entrepreneurship 100%.
Ever since, I’ve noticed that my mental and physical well-being has greatly improved. My passion for building has returned. And I now have the clarity, will, and determination to create a truly amazing, delightful, and inspiring business that is sustainable and rewarding.
